The First High Criminal Court has sentenced a 72-year-old Iranian national to 10 years in prison and ordered his permanent deportation from Bahrain after serving his sentence for forging official documents and using a fake identity to obtain benefits reserved for Bahraini citizens, including a retirement pension.
Investigations found that he entered Bahrain in 1979 to work and, in 1983, changed his name, date of birth and other details on a forged birth certificate. He used the document to obtain a work permit, two driving licences, identity documents and other official papers.
He was registered as a Bahraini insured person for 31 years, enabling him to receive a pension and end-of-service benefit from 2015. Contributions paid on his behalf totalled BD46,000. He admitted the charges.
