GLOBAL peace rests on respect for national sovereignty and international accountability, the Cabinet heard yesterday.
Yesterday’s session also stressed the importance of providing redress for the damages resulting from conflicts, ending support for armed groups and resolving outstanding issues through legal means as the foundation of peace.
Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday chaired the meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.
The Cabinet also reiterated the kingdom’s firm position that any arrangement concerning navigation in the Strait of Hormuz must be based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
It should be adopted by the International Maritime Organisation and preserve the right of transit passage for all vessels without discrimination, fees, or permits, and involve all GCC states, given the direct link between the security of the passage and the security of their supplies, ministers said.
The Cabinet condemned the targeting of the East-West oil pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions of Saudi Arabia by drones launched from Iraqi territory.
It emphasised that the attack is a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, as well as an assault on critical civilian infrastructure impacting the security of energy supplies.
The Cabinet also condemned the renewed terrorist attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia, which targeted several civilian, economic and vital facilities in Saudi Arabia.
The Cabinet affirmed that these attacks, along with the continued targeting of commercial vessels and threats to the freedom and safety of international maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandab Strait, represent a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
The Cabinet congratulated the winners of the 2026 Unesco King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education.
It noted that the support and patronage of His Majesty have reinforced the international standing and recognition of the prize.
Highlighting the importance of international democratic values, the Cabinet outlined the significant achievements made in strengthening constitutional institutions and advancing their contributions to the kingdom’s comprehensive development process, led by the King.
