His Majesty King Hamad received a cable of congratulations from the Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, observed annually by countries and parliaments around the world on September 15
His Majesty also received a cable of congratulations from Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh on the occasion.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister also received similar cables.
Mr Al Musallam said His Majesty’s vision has established democracy in Bahrain as a strategic choice and approach, while strengthening public participation within the constitutional framework.
On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, he said the National Action Charter, which received national consensus, is the social contract which united the people of Bahrain in support of the King’s leadership.
“The kingdom’s Constitution has been central for development, progress and growth across the political, economic and social domains, and Bahrain’s democratic system, with its values, principles and practices, continues to develop under the rule of law and institutions,” he added.
He said this approach has helped the kingdom attain a leading position internationally and successfully balance tradition and modernity, as well as national values with the demands of the times.
The Speaker highlighted that Bahraini democracy is characterised by its emphasis on loyalty, a strong sense of belonging, and pride in Bahraini identity, national culture and established values. “Democracy also involves promoting public participation while respecting the nation, its leadership, families and society. This sense of national awareness has played an important role in safeguarding achievements, addressing challenges and advancing the development process,” he added.
He reaffirmed the Parliament’s commitment to continuing its national work with determination to implement the royal vision and develop legislation and laws that serve the country and its citizens, improve legislative and oversight performance, and contribute to building the future of Bahrain.
The Shura Council Chairman also affirmed the Council’s commitment to continuing to fulfil its constitutional role and responsibilities, and to working with determination and national resolve to strengthen Bahraini parliamentary diplomacy and its role in supporting parliamentary partnerships that promote best practices in safeguarding democratic freedoms and rights.
