TRIATHLON – BAHRAIN Victorious 13 superstar Georgia Taylor-Brown was crowned women’s race champion of the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic.
Taylor-Brown put in a strong finish to triumph over the Olympic distance – including a 1.5-kilometre swim, a 40km bike, and a 10km run – and with more than a half-a-minute’s gap from her closest challenger.
The result earned the Briton her first WTCS victory in three years – with her last coming in Cagliari, Italy in May of 2023 – and first WTCS medal in two years.
“I’m quite emotional about it,” Taylor-Brown said after the race. “I didn’t think I was ever going to get there again to be honest.”
Taylor-Brown exited the swim leg just 10 seconds off the lead, putting her in position to drive the pace in her ride.
She did exactly that, helping split the field and build an advantage of more than two-and-a-half minutes by the time the front group reached transition.
In the run, Taylor-Brown trailed American Taylor Spivey at the front by only a few seconds, but soon swept past to charge ahead.
Having claimed a maiden T100 win earlier this year in Spain, Taylor-Brown had rediscovered her killer instinct on the run and she gradually ramped up the pressure.
With half a lap to go, the medals appeared settled and there was no doubt over the winner. Taylor-Brown went on to triumph in a total time of two hours three minutes and five seconds.
“I kind of settled for playing with the girls in the front and being in the top six, so I’m just really happy I could make the race today,” said Taylor-Brown after claiming her win.
“There was a group of three of us that really pushed at the front and worked well together, and it was just an honest race, and that’s what I enjoy.”
Taylor-Brown posted swim-bike-run splits of 18 minutes and three seconds, 1:09:32, and 34:32.
Finishing as the silver-medallist was Spivey in 2:03:41, while Lisa Tertsch from Germany claimed the bronze medal in 2:04:33.
Following the race, Taylor-Brown improved to 3,145.83 points on the WTCS season standings for elite women. Bahrain Victorious 13 teammate and reigning Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand of France leads with 4,000 points.
Taylor-Brown’s victory also completed a sensational weekend for Bahrain Victorious 13’s women, adding to the win of American teammate Taylor Knibb in the women’s race of this year’s Ironman 70.3 World Championship held in Nice, France.
The results provide a timely boost for the kingdom’s squad as the season moves towards its biggest championship races, with attention now turning to the final stretch of the racing calendar and the remaining major targets across triathlon’s leading championships and series.
