TRIATHLON – BAHRAIN Victorious 13’s Jelle Geens from Belgium took the bronze medal in the men’s event of the 2026 Ironman 70.3 World Championship held in Nice, France.
A day after teammate Taylor Knibb from the US claimed her fourth Ironman 70.3 world title in the women’s race, Geens climbed his event’s podium after putting pressure on the eventual winner with a strong run.
Through more than halfway on the bike, Geens remained inside the top 10 before the technical descents saw him drop two places.
He entered the bike-to-run transition less than two minutes off the podium battle, then surged through the field on the run, moving up 11 places in the opening eight km and going as high as second.
Geens held on through the closing stages to claim the final podium spot in three hours 52 minutes and 40 seconds.
Teammate and compatriot Marten Van Riel crossed the finish line 19th after exiting the swim sixth and riding into transition behind Geens. Van Riel came home in 3:59:47.
