A young veena virtuoso captivated music lovers last night as the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) continued its Onam celebrations.
As part of the BKS’ Onam programme, Sraavanam 2026, Grade 10 student and veena prodigy Neelgreev from Kerala performed ‘Melodious Musica’ at the BKS complex in Segaya.
The veena is an ancient, large plucked string instrument from India belonging to the lute family.
Neelgreev, a student at Kodakara Saraswathi Vidyanikethan Central School in Kerala, developed an interest in music from a young age. He began his training under his father, Sudheer, before continuing his veena studies under renowned veena artist A Ananthapadmanabhan.
His interest in the instrument began at the age of nine after he became fascinated by his grandmother’s veena, prompting him to pursue music more seriously.
The evening also featured a Charadu Pinnikkali performance, showcasing a traditional group dance form that is gradually becoming less common.
