GOLF – Bahrain’s under-13 boys’ golf national team bagged the gold medals yesterday in their age group’s teams’ competition at the Pan Arab Junior Golf Championships 2026, currently being played at Madinaty Golf Club and Mirage Golf Club in Cairo, Egypt.
The trio of Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Mohamed Issa Waheed, and Abdalla Youssef Majeed captured their title after finishing with 37-over par total of 325 after two rounds of play.
The kingdom’s youngsters were consistent throughout the event, carding a 163 score on day one followed by 162 on day two yesterday.
Only the top two scores were included on each day, with Shaikh Salman and Mohamed’s being counted both times.
In round one, Shaikh Salman had an individual gross of 82 while Mohamed posted an 81 score. Abdalla played an 89 in his round.
Then, both Shaikh Salman and Mohamed carded 81 gross scores yesterday while Abdalla had a 91 individual total to complete their winning campaign.
The Bahrainis used their strong showing yesterday to surge from three shots behind after starting the day in third place to leapfrog hosts Egypt and Lebanon to the top of the final leaderboard.
The Egyptians had to settle for the silver medals after finishing just a single shot behind, while Tunisia came away with bronze four strokes from Bahrain on the standings.
The Lebanese ranked fourth overall amongst the seven participating national teams nine shots from first place, while completing the classification were Oman in fifth 31 strokes behind Bahrain, the UAE in sixth 51 strokes back, and Saudi Arabia in seventh 63 shots from the newly crowned champions.
The Pan Arab Junior Golf Championships conclude today with the last day of play in the event’s various age categories for boys and girls, including under-21, under-18, and under-16. There are teams and individual events in each class.
Bahrain are also competing in the under-18 category with Khaled Mohamed Siddik, Yaqoub Youssef Majed, and Youssef Youssef Mohamed Siddik; and the under-16 division with Khalifa Mohamed Elfadala, Abdalla Khalil Moubarek, and Youssef Mohamed Elkawary.
