US President Donald Trump said Washington was considering joining Saudi strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen following a lethal missile strike on Riyadh’s international airport.
When asked whether the US planned to join Saudi retaliatory strikes, Trump told reporters: "We may. We're going to look at it. We just found out about the recent attack, so we'll make a decision. We move very quickly."
At least 12 people were killed and more than 300 wounded in Saturday's attack on the airport, marking the deadliest strike in the kingdom in over a decade as Iran-backed Houthi forces step up their campaign.
The fatalities from the third attack on the airport this week included four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one citizen each from the US, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt, according to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the airport attack, stating that it demonstrated a blatant disregard for innocent civilian lives.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also condemned Saturday's strike, reiterating that attacks targeting civilians and critical civilian infrastructure violate international law and must cease immediately.
