American Twitch streamer Nick Fosco, known online as Lacy, incurred a $12,000 (BD4,500) bill after viewers hijacked a restaurant’s digital ordering system during a broadcast in Japan.
The streamer accidentally exposed the table’s QR code on camera while live-streaming his meal at a local establishment.
Viewers scanned the code remotely and placed thousands of dollars in unauthorised food and drink orders.
A waiter approached Fosco halfway through his meal to query the influx of pending orders.
The streamer initially expressed confusion before realising that viewers were placing orders online.
He immediately requested staff to halt incoming orders and ended the live stream shortly afterwards.
"I just had to pay over $12,000 because you guys thought it'd be funny", Fosco later stated during a follow-up stream, criticising viewers for wasting food and overworking restaurant staff.
Fosco apologised to the establishment, paid the full bill, and instructed staff to distribute the extra meals to other families dining in the restaurant.
The streamer has over 3.5 million followers on Twitch and is widely known for his Fortnite content.
