A WOMAN who reportedly fell off a building in Gudaibiya yesterday had sought police help just a day earlier, it has emerged.
Ethiopian Merema Mohammed is currently undergoing treatment at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), the GDN has learnt.
According to a source, her condition is critical.
“She is in the trauma intensive care unit and on a ventilator. She has multiple fractures and head and abdominal injuries.
“Her condition is critical.”
The 26-year-old fell off the second floor of Al Dana building opposite Andalus Garden on Shaikh Isa Avenue early in the morning, added the source.
“Police brought her to the SMC Recovery and Resuscitation room in the morning.
“We learn that she had fallen off one of the apartments in Al Dana building which houses offices for recruitment agencies.
“According to reports from the police station, she was at the Sitra police station on Tuesday evening and had asked for help to return to her home country.
“Apparently, the agency representatives took her back from the police station on condition that she would be sent home the next day.”
Demand
Confirming the incident, Ethiopian honorary consul Esky Dubois said that it was difficult to believe that the woman was trying to commit suicide.
“I learnt from community volunteers that she was all set to fly home tonight,” she told the GDN.
“And according to police this was based on her demand, so why would she try to commit suicide if she was looking forward to return home?
“We will soon be contacting the agency to find out what went wrong.”
Ms Mohammed’s records do not exist at the Labour Market Regulatory Authority.
