MANAMA: Licorne Gulf Thomson has appointed Bahrain-based Ali Abduljalil Turk and Sons (Turk) as its exclusive logistics and support services partner for GCC operations.
Also based in Bahrain, Licorne Gulf Thomson is the sole regional representative of French PC brand Thomson Computing.
Licorne Gulf was founded by Irina Duisimbekova and Alexandre Katrangi, following an announcement by Thomson Computing in February this year that the company will set up a production centre in Bahrain to manufacture computers, tablets and computer accessories to be sold across the GCC and the US.
“The opportunity to handle the logistics and clearance support for an international group such as Thomson Computing and Licorne is a big achievement for us and showcases our commitment to clients since generations,” said Turk Group chief executive Khalid Turk.
“After several meetings with Licorne Gulf Thomson, we assessed their needs and requirements to optimise our technical and commercial offers and reach a common goal of efficiency and client-support excellence.
“Our track record demonstrates the quality of our know-how to the Thomson local partners.”
Thomson Computing said that key to the choice of Bahrain as the location for the French firm were the Bahrain-based husband and wife team of Mr Katrangi and Ms Duisimbekova who run an international advisory for businesses wanting to set up shop in the GCC.
The duo, which has a 16-year track record of forging Franco-Arab partnerships, has been officially mandated by Thomson Computing to raise capital, find development opportunities and organise the distribution and representation of the company within the GCC.
“Our approach was to establish long-term relations with an efficient local company and in line with our will to have Bahrain as a hub for all Thomson operations in the GCC,” said Ms Duisimbekova.
“We found Turk Logistics as the most appropriate for our strategy for the GCC, Mena and US export through the free-trade agreements.
“We conducted long negotiations with Turk for all-in-one offers covering a wide range of services for GCC and US export – which I admit was not an easy exercise for Turk as per the specifications of each country – but they relished the challenge and succeeded in demonstrating their possibilities,” she added.
Ali Abduljalil Turk and Sons was originally founded in 1971 and specialises in logistics and heavy transport. The company also evolved and diversified into mechanical engineering and power industries.
Ms Duisimbekova and Mr Katrangi are also the founders of Texas-headquartered Licorne Energy which specialises in oil asset investments by purchasing royalties in oil and gas within the US, energy investments and projects, new technologies and petroleum commodities trading.
