THERE is a limited scope for agriculture and vegetable production in Bahrain due of inadequate farmland, weather, soil, availability of water and environment, among other things.
The government encourages, supports and offers a lot of subsidy in support of farming.
However, it is unfortunate to witness green, farming land that is protected by the government being asphalted under the cover of darkness, temporary warehouses built on it and construction work carried out from behind aluminium sheets.
This construction site in question is behind the Huteen Primary Boys School located on Alsuwaifiyah Avenue and near the Manama fire brigade station in Naim.
It would be interesting to know which authorities concerned have given the necessary permission, and to whom.
Is it the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, the Supreme Council for Environment or the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry?
Why destroy the limited resources of green farmland available?
Wake up and stop this destruction. Bahrain is healthy and must continue to be so.
