F1 – IT’S race week for the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026 and a top official has praised the kingdom for the high level of organisation ahead of the motorsport spectacle.
The Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) and Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) have been working extensively over the past few months, together with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia and Sepang International Circuit (SIC), to get fully ready for the highly anticipated race weekend taking place this Friday to Sunday at SIC – Malaysia’s iconic motorsport venue which will be welcoming F1 back for the first time since 2017.
These efforts have been commended by Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) race director Rui Marques, who expressed yesterday his great satisfaction with the readiness and efficiency of Bahrain’s motorsport community, who number in the hundreds on site in Malaysia, in spearheading the organisation of the mega event.
Marques was speaking as he attended a meeting of the heads of BMF-affiliated teams along with FIA sporting delegate Tim Malyon.
Preparations are now in their final stages for this weekend’s F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia 2026, where F1’s superstar drivers and their teams will be hitting the tarmac on all three days, making for plenty of exciting action at SIC.
The top flight’s contenders will be on track for two 60-minute practice sessions Friday and then a third on Saturday morning. Qualifying will then be held later that day to determine the starting grid for the 56-lap F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia on Sunday, which will be flagging off at 10am Bahrain time.
In support of F1, Formula Trophy Malaysia (FTM) will also be taking to the track at SIC throughout the race weekend.
The South East Asian single-seater championship for junior drivers will be showcasing the talents of motorsport’s future stars, who will be competing in identical Tatuus F4-T421 racing cars powered by Abarth, and with all cars running on Giti tyres.
FTM will also be holding two practice sessions on Friday, each over a duration of 30 minutes. Qualifying will then be held on Saturday, setting the grids for the weekend’s two 27-lap races – with the first taking place later on Saturday and the second on Sunday.
