What an amazing time Othmann and Christine Gordon and I have had with our ‘Draw with Othmann’ initiative this month to raise awareness about autism through the universal language of art.
Othmann, 25, has Autism Spectrum Disorder, which makes conventional methods of communication difficult for him. Yet, when he has a pencil in his hand all barriers are removed and he is sharing his talent with us just like anyone else.
It has been a joy to see him laugh and smile all month during our 10 pop-up Art for Autism Awareness 2021 events around Bahrain – some in person, others virtual.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to artists Madhu Sarda, Pallavi Jain, Zainab Javid, Seana Mallen, Irina Averinos, Jincy Babu and Limnesh Augustine – as well as Kareem, the owner of Café La Ventana who hosted one of activities.
A huge shout out to everyone who watched us live on social media – we were so delighted to hook up with friends and viewers with India, UK, Germany, Egypt, Jordan, the USA and many more.
Our motto is ‘Include, Enable, Inspire’ and we hope we did just that; we are all unique in our abilities and that is what inspires us!
Watch out for our next exciting inclusive art event by following @baloosbuddies on Instagram.
Kind regards,
Dr Sarah Clarke on behalf of Othmann El Attar and Christine Gordon MBE
