REGISTRATION is now open for children to receive Covid-19 vaccinations, it has been announced.
Children in the age group of 3-11 who suffer from diseases that cause weak immunity are eligible to receive two doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, said the Health Ministry yesterday.
The GDN reported last Wednesday that the decision by the National Taskforce to Combat the Coronavirus (Covid-19) to vaccinate younger children was based on a study that reviewed Covid-19 symptoms in patients suffering from diseases that cause immunity to weaken, such as respiratory diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, obesity, cancerous tumours, Down Syndrome and birth defects.
Registration for this group can be done via the website healthalert.gov.bh
Meanwhile, registration is also open to all children in the age group of 12-17 to receive their vaccinations.
They can opt for two doses of either the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or the Sinopharm vaccine.
Children in this age group can register either via the website healthalert.gov.bh or on the BeAware Bahrain app.
However, in both cases the consent of a legal guardian is required and the children must also have an adult accompanying them when taking the vaccination, added the ministry.
The task force previously stressed the importance of ensuring eligible children are inoculated to safeguard public health, adding that the incubation period for the virus in this age group without symptoms extends up to four days, which may increase the spread of the virus.

Registration is now also open for a booster Covid-19 vaccine shot for those who have completed six months after receiving both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or AstraZeneca vaccines.
Eligible groups include those aged 60 and above, and those who are immuno-compromised.
Those who qualify for the booster dose can choose to take a shot of either the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or the same type of vaccination that they took for their first and second doses.
The Health Ministry announced yesterday that from October 1, the vaccination status of individuals eligible for a booster shot will change in the BeAware Bahrain app from the green shield to the yellow shield until they opt to receive a booster dose.
Eligible people can register on the BeAware Bahrain app or via the website, healthalert.gov.bh
