WRITERS, poets and artists from across the globe will be showcasing a series of colourful and expressive collaborations as part of an annual art event created to uplift and inspire.
‘The Confluence – Where Words and Images Meet’ exhibition, which is being organised by Bahrain Writers’ Circle (BWC) in partnership with Harbour Gate, was launched yesterday featuring an array of creations inspired by words, made by 19 teams of writers and artists.
“This year sees the dawn of a whole new confluence,” said BWC director Saira Ranj.
“The junction of two rivers creates a confluence and to host this exhibition yet again in Bahrain, a country between two seas, is no coincidence.
“Visual art powerfully interspersed with word art is what is showcased here and it gives the onlooker a chance to really experience the perspectives of both.
“This time around our members are collaborating with international artists across the globe, from the UAE to the US.”
The exhibition, which is situated on the second floor of Harbour Gate, Bahrain Financial Harbour, was the brainchild of Rohini Sunderam, a founding member of BWC and former director, and the event’s name was created by member, Preeti Rana.
It first took off in 2018 and has grown in popularity since.

Mr Shukri
This year’s ‘Confluence’ patron is professional Bahraini life speaker and corporate culture expert and consultant, Mohamed Ali Shukri.
He is the first Arab to reach the World Championship of Public Speaking finals in 2006 in Washington DC.
He also received the Accredited Speaker Award by Toastmasters International in 2020, making him the 88th globally and first in the Middle East since the initiation of the award in 1981.
“Words and colours come from one place, the heart,” said Mr Shukri.
“They appear together, playfully, in different spaces and styles such as articulate art, a singing canvas, dancing poetry, and colourful writing. I am pleased to be part of this where poets and artists portray a magnificent masterpiece and celebrate art in the heart of Bahrain.”
The exhibition, which is free for all, runs until October 14 and Harbour Gate is open daily with the implementation of all Covid-19 precautionary measures.
The Confluence brochure can also be accessed digitally. Exhibits are assigned a QR code shown next to each artwork on display and visitors can scan the code to view the virtual brochure which includes a write-up on each team member along with bios and contact details.
