TWO people jailed for using more than 50,000 counterfeit Saudi riyals in Bahrain have lost appeals against their convictions.
The Bahrainis, aged 29 and 30, were found guilty of forgery by the High Criminal Court in March.
They possessed thousands of fake Saudi riyals which they sold and used in the country.
The men were arrested after they agreed to sell the fake currency to an undercover agent in Juffair in November last year.
The 29-year-old was jailed for five years and his co-defendant for three.
They lodged appeals at the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court, which was rejected yesterday.
“The defendants agreed to sell fake Saudi riyals to a plainclothes officer in Juffair,” read the appeal court ruling.
“They were found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence against them.”
The 30-year-old, employed as a security guard, told prosecutors that he was collecting money on behalf of his co-defendant and did not know that it was forged.
