A mother accused of torturing her baby and causing him a permanent disability has lost her custody rights, said a report in Akhbar Al Khaleej.
The Lower Sharia Court ruled against the mother, transferring the custody of the infant to his aunt for his safety.
The mother and her teenage lover will know their fate on Tuesday as the court will issue its verdict in the case.
The aunt had lodged an urgent lawsuit to be granted the custody of the children as their father is dead.
The mother who is standing trial is also accused of neglecting her children despite getting BD1,000 per month from her husband’s pension, in addition to aid from associations.
The GDN reported earlier that the 29-year-old mother and her 18-year-old friend are accused of having regularly viciously beaten four children – two boys and two girls – whose ages range from 10 months to six years.
They are said to have nearly killed the 10-month-old boy on June 14 after the male defendant spun the child in the air hitting his head twice because the child would not stop crying.
The baby was then taken to a private hospital in Manama with fractures to his head, hands and chest before being put on life support. A medical report said that it was a ‘miracle’ that he survived.
