A MAJOR sports conference will open today under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The Health Ministry and Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre are co-organising the congress under the theme “Athlete’s Heart”.
Shaikh Nasser gave directives to hold the congress to discuss the causes of sports-related deaths and prevent such fatalities to protect citizens and residents’ health and safety.
Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea said that the importance of the conference which reflects Shaikh Nasser’s keenness on promoting safe sports exercise.
He hailed the government’s keenness on promoting the health sectors and keeping abreast of latests medical and scientific developments to reduce death cases among the sports community.
Organising committee chairman, consultant cardiologist and interventional cardiac electrophysiologist Dr Adel Khalifa stressed the importance of the conference which would further enhance Bahrain’s medical standing.
He said that the three-day conference, which features 40 scientific lectures and five workshops, will be attended by keynote speakers from Bahrain and abroad, to discuss causes of death among athletes and highlight safe and sound methods of practising sports activity.
