MANAMA: A travelling library will be launched as part of cultural celebrations marking Bahrain’s National Day this year.
The events, being organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca), will commemorate the establishment of the modern Bahraini state as an Arab and Muslim country founded by Ahmed Al Fateh in 1783, the anniversary of its full membership of the UN, and the anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad’s accession to the throne.
In addition, the celebrations will also mark the 33rd anniversary of establishing Bahrain National Museum on December 15.
Workshops, exhibitions and shows suitable for all age groups will be held during the month.
The museum continues to hold the pop-up exhibition ‘Intersections II’ in its permanent exhibition Halls until Friday in celebration of International Day of Islamic Art.
It is an iteration of a previous exhibition held at the museum in 2017 and complements the permanent displays in the Manuscripts, Tylos and Islamic Halls with new highlights from the museum’s permanent collections.
It is being held from 8am until 8pm.
A joint exhibition for poet Dina Adnan Bseisu and Tunisian-Swiss calligrapher Abderrazak Hamouda is also being held at the Art Centre in Manama from 9am to 8pm, until Friday.
On Sunday, an exhibition entitled “Life Under Water” will be held at the Art Centre at 11am.
It focuses on important issues within the kingdom, by raising awareness about saving marine life, its conservation and keeping our seas clean.
It will be followed by the opening of “Lines of Light II” which features the works of the members of Bahrain Women Printmakers, inviting them to use the power of light as a physical medium, as well as an allegory, using its revelatory, transformative qualities to create works that engage through their ability to challenge the viewer’s perspective.
The exhibition opens on December 15 at 7pm.
It follows the “Lines of Light” exhibition’s success in 2019, and in view of the inspiring evolution of Bahrain Women Printmakers, “Art Concept” is curating a new edition of “Lines of Light” with additional artworks by invited artists who enrich the output of this exhibition.
Today, young Bahraini artist Rawan Al Hosani will share her experiences working on four different internationally recognised movies, such as Scooby-Doo’s Scoob! (2020), discussing the working steps through history, 2D art, 3D animation, up to the final movie product.
She will address the audience at the museum auditorium at 6pm.
A resin workshop will be held at the Art Centre on Saturday in collaboration with “Resin Master” from 10am until 2pm.
Trainer Hussain Asbool will introduce participants to the different types of epoxy resin along with the materials, tools and equipment used.
Participants will collaborate to produce a two-metre artwork, then each create their own artwork on a wooden map of Bahrain using resin and gold leaf.
Registration at www.culture.gov.bh is required to participate at the event.
A book launch will be held on Thursday at the museum at 6pm for “Booker in the Balance of Criticism: Critical Studies in the Novels Winning the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2008-2020” by Dr May Al Sada and Rasool Darwish.
On Monday at 6pm two books by the Bahraini intellectual Dr Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari, namely “Boxers Were Muslims?: A Research Look at Non-Muslim Phenomena of Terrorism” and “The Gulf, Iran, Arabs: A Gulf Perspective” will be launched at the museum library.
Marking the 33rd anniversary of the museum will see various events being held at the museum and Cultural Hall from 7pm until 7am on December 15 and December 16.
“Manama Doesn’t Sleep” will present an exciting lineup embracing the energy of the city.
The non-stop, 12-hour celebration includes a variety of events from musical performances, literary talks, fine art exhibits and more.
For its third edition, “Made in Bahrain” shop will be held at Suq Al Baraha in Diyar Al Muharraq, coinciding with the National Day on December 16.
The event will be held from 10am to 10pm.
On December 17, in remembrance of Martyr’s Day, artist Hala Mohammed Al Khalifa presents a creative workshop inspired by jasmine flowers, symbols of hope, dedicated to the children of the martyrs of the kingdom, in collaboration with the Royal Humanitarian Foundation. It will be held at 10am at the Art Centre.
The annual celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language will be held in co-operation with the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage on December 18. Highlighting the Baca’s “Knowledge Transfer” project, this year’s scope of focus is on “Arabic Language and Civilisational Communication”, aligning with Unesco’s vision to illuminate the Arabic language as a carrier of knowledge and as a tool for civilisational communication.
The Al Khalifiyah Travelling Library will be launched during the month, moving one of the oldest public libraries in Bahrain and the first public library in Muharraq from its location in the heart of the old city to all corners of the kingdom, with the aim of spreading the culture of reading to a wider segment of society.
The travelling library’s locations and timings will be announced through Baca’s social media channels.
Baca will also unveil the winning benches of the “A Bench in Muharraq” competition, organised in co-operation with the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry along the Pearling Path “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy” inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List.
