THE Cassation Court yesterday ordered a retrial in the case of a Bahraini man convicted of raping a boy at knifepoint.
The defendant was initially sentenced to 10 years in prison by the High Criminal Court but he filed an appeal at the High Criminal Appeals Court.
Court documents revealed that the Bahraini boy was younger than 16 years old when the crime allegedly took place in the Capital Governorate in May last year.
After his appeal was rejected, he lodged another appeal at the Cassation Court.
“The court rules that the case be returned to the High Criminal Court,” said the ruling.
Meanwhile, another Bahraini man convicted of sex crimes against a minor had his final appeal rejected by the Cassation Court yesterday.
The man was sentenced to three years in jail for sexually assaulting a minor and encouraging him to engage in inappropriate behaviour, including smoking.
The incident also occurred last May.
