Deception to obtain Bahraini citizenship is unacceptable and considered a crime to the nation, Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa has said.
He said in a statement yesterday that the work of the committee formed to review naturalisation cases continues. The panel has taken legal steps as per established procedures regarding reviewed cases, the minister said.
Cases that obtained Bahraini nationality in violation of the law are dealt with per the provisions of the Nationality Law of 1963 and its amendments, Gen Shaikh Rashid pointed out.
He noted that the revocation or withdrawal of citizenship and its associated privileges would be considered if individuals provided incorrect information or forged documents to get citizenship, misused citizenship, or harmed the interests of the kingdom and its societal security. The Interior Minister highlighted nationality is of high value and the solid foundation to reinforce community security and protection of national identity.
“The honour of obtaining nationality comes, in the first place, only under the provisions of the laws, and thus, obtaining it unlawfully requires us to confront such people who have harmed the state that fostered them, took care of their families, reassured them, and provided them with a source of livelihood and a decent living.”
He said that hotline 997, allocated by the Interior Ministry to report information, complaints and comments regarding cases of obtaining Bahraini nationality in violation of the law, received around 146 cases from June 27 until yesterday, including 73 related to non-biological children and 35 cases related to obtaining citizenship without completing the required period.
