The kingdom’s leading hypermarket kicked off a grand festival to begin preparations for India’s upcoming Independence Day, on August 15.
The festival features a range of Indian delights including basmati rice, premium buffalo meat, poultry and processed foods. Biryani, machboos and guzi were also prepared, alongside Indian rice.
‘The Great Indian Festival’ is being organised by LuLu Hypermarket Bahrain, in collaboration with Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA).
The APEDA delegation, led by secretary Dr Sudanshu and director Tarun Bajaj, visited the kingdom to explore possibilities of further expanding trade and investment between the two countries in the food and agriculture sector.
The festival was officially inaugurated by Indian Ambassador Vinod Jacob at the hypermarket outlet in Dana Mall.
LuLu Group director Juzer Rupawala welcomed the delegation and highlighted that the hypermarket has “always been a leader in promoting Indian delicacies”.
“As the biggest retail presence in Bahrain, LuLu Group plays a key role in supporting Bahrain’s government with food security, price stability and availability of quality foodstuff,” he said.
“We believe that India plays a major role in food sustainability and security in the world and the LuLu Group can be a key factor in amplifying this fact. We are looking forward to growing ties with APEDA that will strengthen our portfolio of Indian foods,” he added.
Dr Sudanshu congratulated LuLu on its promising range of Indian delicacies and highlighted the bond between the two nations.
“India has always had a strong cultural bond and a long history with Bahrain for more than 50 years and we see potential to increase trade in Bahrain,” he said.
“The turnout of shoppers for the festival is a successful marker of our presence in the kingdom, and we are grateful for the collaboration.”
