An array of fashionably-dressed dogs dazzled audiences as they put their best paw forward at a major show organised at Hilton Bahrain.
The pet-friendly hotel staged the second edition of the popular dog fashion show, PAWject Runway, at its premises yesterday.
The energy was high at the Banquet Hall on the sixth floor as 10 canine contestants took to the ramp with their
humans, dressed in eye-catching outfits.
Alaskan Malamute Snowy bagged the first place, followed by Pomeranian-Bichon Frise-mix Maxine in second position and BARC stray Fifi in third.
The event was held in collaboration with Bahrain Animal Rescue Centre (BARC) and other sponsors.
“We are very happy to see Snowy win,” Indian expatriate and owner Sushil Kulkarni told the GDN.
“It’s the first time he is participating in PAWject Runway, though he has taken part in many local shows before, including the ‘Best Alaskan Malamute in Bahrain’.
“We brought Snowy home when he was just three months old and it’s been wonderful having him as part of our family, especially the way he hugs us when we get home.”
The furry fashionistas were evaluated based on their costume’s creativity, personality, memorability and audience
impact.
The judging panel included Hilton Bahrain general manager Tamer Farouk, Capital Governorate director of information and follow up Yusuf Lori, a pet park representative Ahmed Ali and Hilton Bahrain director of operations Aydin Eker.
One of the judges said that all contestants were great and it was a ‘tough decision’.
The fashion show coincides with Hilton Bahrain’s second anniversary this month as a pet-friendly hotel.
“When we decided to open two years ago, we thought about how we could be different,” Mr Farouk said.
“We wanted to do something we believed in and decided to be the island’s first pet-friendly five-star hotel.
“At Hilton Bahrain, we believe in serving the community and that animals are a vital part of it. Our commitment to animal welfare extends beyond just our hotel and so, we are proud to partner with BARC, which is doing a wonderful job. All the proceeds from today’s show will be donated to them.”
BARC had four entries in the show, including third-place winner Fifi who won hearts dressed up as a ‘hot dog’. The event also included a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the anniversary of the hotel.
