The High Criminal Court has sentenced a woman to six months in prison after she caused the death of a cleaner in a road accident while using her mobile phone. The court also set bail at BD100 to suspend the execution of the sentence, according to a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
According to the case file, the woman was driving her car when she struck the victim, who was pushing a cleaning cart along the roadside. Investigations found that the accident occurred due to the driver’s distraction and lack of attention while using her phone.
A traffic report confirmed that the defendant failed to exercise due care and attention and was not focused on the road. The impact of the collision threw the victim onto the pavement, causing fatal injuries.
Prosecutors charged the woman with causing death by negligence and inattention, stressing that she failed to follow basic road safety rules and drove carelessly while distracted by her mobile phone.
