CYCLING – MOHAMMED Hasan Jawad was crowned overall champion of the Bahraini category in the fifth edition of the Nasser Bin Hamad Cycling Tour for Amateurs, which came to a close yesterday.
Meanwhile, Helal Jaber Al Harbi claimed the title in the category for GCC, Bahrain national team, and expatriate riders from the kingdom.
The event was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and it offered a massive prize purse of BD41,000.
The race concluded with the fourth and final stage yesterday, held over a distance of 80km.
In the teams’ category, Bahrain Giant finished first amongst the Bahraini entrants, followed by Victorious One in second place and TriLife in third.
Victorious One won the title in the GCC, Bahrain national team, and expatriates in the kingdom category, ahead of Rabdan in second and Torque in third.
Hassan Aqeel Thamer finished in first place amongst the Bahraini amateurs in yesterday’s concluding leg. In the race’s other class, Saeed Hassan from the UAE was the winner.
Meanwhile, other events took place yesterday as part of the final day of racing.
Fatima Hussain won the Bahraini category in the 40km women’s race, followed by Zainab Karam and Nazla Mandeel. In the class for GCC and national team riders and expatriates in the kingdom, Cassie Pittman took first place ahead of Olga Gurfat, and Lea Natividad Leva.
In the 10km handcycling race for people of determination, Nassar Ali finished first, followed by Mousa Al Sayigh and Ahmed Nader.
The event also featured a series of youth races covering several age groups, attracting wide participation and showcasing enthusiasm and talent across all categories.
The event was organised by the Bahrain Cycling Association and Faalyat Company. It was sponsored by Bapco Energies, Beyon, Al Salam Bank, and Binaa Al Bahrain, powered by Eagle Hills.
