Thunder and rain of varying intensity battered parts of the kingdom yesterday evening, prompting authorities to warn people against reckless driving due to inclement conditions.
According to the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry’s Meteorological Directorate, the rains began at around 6.15pm and lasted until early in the morning.
They were accompanied by very strong gusts of northeasterly winds reaching up to 25 knots at times, along with a peak humidity of about 90 per cent.
The predicted unsettled weather brought scattered rain and spectacular lightning displays. The Meteorological Directorate had previously issued a warning for thundery rain and strong gusts reaching up to 30 knots.
Temperatures have started to get warmer, with the highest recorded yesterday reaching 29C in the afternoon, before cooling off with the rain in the evening, reaching 21C.
Similar conditions are expected to persist today, with southeasterly winds reaching up to 30knots, and temperature ranging between 22C and 30C.
Relief is expected tomorrow with cloudy weather, northerly winds reaching up to 17 knots, and temperature between 21C and 28C.
Due to the weather conditions, the Interior Ministry called upon drivers to exercise the utmost caution while on the road, adhere to speed limits, maintain safe distance between vehicles, and only overtake when it is deemed safe to do so.
Seafarers have been warned of wave heights potentially rising to more than two metres during gusts.
