ASIAN BEACH GAMES – Bahrain’s delegation stepped up their preparations yesterday for the sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, which is scheduled to get underway on Wednesday next week.
The kingdom’s representatives took part in various technical and administrative activities as the days continued to count down to the multi-sport event.
Bahrain’s 3x3 basketball national team took to the court for the first time yesterday during their training camp in the city of Guangzhou.
The quartet of Bogdan Dragovic, Milos Supica, Nasser Al Mosawi, and Austin Ajukwa are getting ready for their tournament with intensive morning and evening practices.
They are also scheduled to play tune-up games against a number of international teams during their camp, most notably the Hangzhou squad that participates in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s swimmer William Balzano kicked off his training at the pool of Sanya Sports Centre.
His teammate Robert Bonsall is expected to join in the coming days.
They both will be competing in the men’s five-kilometre open water swimming at this year’s Asian Beach Games.
Also yesterday, the kingdom’s chef de mission and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) executive director of operations Ahmed Abdulghaffar, along with deputy chef de mission and BOC Arab and international relations head Maryam Mardana, participated in the daily meeting of mission heads, which was held as part of the final preparations for the start of competition.
All arrangements regarding this were reviewed, including the timetables of the sports that will be held.
During the meeting, the importance of continuous co-ordination between the organising committee and the heads of delegations was highlighted, which would help overcome any obstacles and ensure the smooth running of the Asian Beach Games.
Bahrain’s participating delegation are looking forward to the official opening of the athletes’ village today, which will host more than 45 National Olympic Committees in addition to nearly 2,000 athletes from across the continent.
The athletes’ village is expected to provide an integrated environment that includes accommodation, training facilities, and logistical services, contributing to creating an ideal atmosphere that supports the athletes’ readiness and gives them the opportunity to perform at their best during the Asian Beach Games.
Aside from 3x3 basketball and open water swimming, which is a discipline under the sport of aquatics, Bahrain are also competing in beach handball and beach wrestling.
There are 14 sports in all in Sanya, with the others being beach soccer, beach kabaddi, beach athletics, dragon boat, jiu-jitsu, sailing, speed sports climbing, teqball, aquathlon triathlon, and beach volleyball.
