President Donald Trump has announced that US negotiators will travel to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, today for possible talks aimed at ending the US-Israel war on Iran.
Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation, ABC News reported citing an interview with US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz.
In a post on social media yesterday, Trump accused Iran of violating a two-week ceasefire that is due to expire on Wednesday by opening fire on Saturday in the Strait of Hormuz. The US president threatened to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran if it doesn’t accept the terms of the deal being offered by the US.
“We’re offering a very fair and reasonable deal, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single power plant, and every single bridge, in Iran,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
After Trump’s announcement, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that there is currently no decision by Iran to send a negotiating delegation to Pakistan “as long as there is a naval blockade” on Iranian ports. Later, the state news agency IRNA reported that Tehran rejected the talks.
Trump later announced that the US military took control of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that had tried to get past the blockade. “We have full custody of their ship, and are seeing what’s on board!” he wrote on social media, adding that US forces blew a hole in the vessel’s engine room.
