Three defendants were yesterday sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined BD2,000 each by the High Criminal Court for supporting Iranian aggression against Bahrain, obtaining sensitive data and photographing prohibited locations.
The case began after the Public Prosecution received a report from the Cybercrime Directorate, which had been monitoring social media accounts that shared images, videos and comments praising hostile and terrorist acts, and publishing restricted location data.
Investigations were launched which led to the identification and arrest of the individuals operating the accounts.
The defendants later admitted the charges, while technical analysis of seized electronic devices confirmed their alleged involvement.
They were referred to the High Criminal Court, where the cases were heard over several sessions during which all legally prescribed guarantees were observed, including the attendance of the defendants’ lawyers, who were given the chance to present their defence.
Yesterday, the court found the three guilty and sentenced them to a decade in prison, along with fines of BD2,000 each.
