A temporary board has been appointed to run the Bahrain Historical and Archaeological Society for six months following a display of a forged map infringing on Bahrain’s territorial sovereignty.
The decision was issued by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa under Resolution No (1) of 2026 published in the Official Gazette.
According to the resolution, the move follows a report prepared by the relevant department at the Culture Directorate, which stated that the society had displayed a forged map ‘that infringes upon the territorial sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bahrain’.
The report also cited ‘a number of other violations that constitute a serious breach of public order’.
The temporary board will be chaired by Dr Dhia Al Kaabi, with Dr Abdul Ghani Saleh Al Shuwaikh serving as vice-chairman.
Board members also include Dr Fatima Al Buainain, Mohammed Lori and Ali Al Qamish.
The interim board has been granted the powers of the society’s board of directors under the law and the association’s bylaws.
The resolution orders those currently managing the society to immediately hand over all funds, records, books and documents to the interim board.
The board must also submit a report to the authority within three months detailing the society’s situation, including financial matters, alongside proposals to reform, develop and reorganise its work in line with the law.
In addition, the interim board has been tasked with calling a general assembly meeting at least one month before the end of its six-month term, subject to approval from the authority.
During the meeting, members will elect a new board of directors after the necessary nomination procedures are completed.
The resolution has come into immediate effect.
