Three thieves who stole 105kg of chicken from the back of a speeding truck in Egypt in a movie-like robbery have been killed during an armed confrontation with police, while three other suspects were arrested.
Egyptian police confirmed that the suspects stole chicken boxes from a moving truck travelling at high speed on a highway in Cairo.
Social media users described the incident as a ‘movie-like heist’, comparing it to robbery scenes from the Fast and Furious film series.
A video recorded on a highway in Cairo showed two men transferring boxes from a moving truck onto a pickup vehicle while holding onto the truck’s hood.
According to the truck driver’s statement, the vehicle was carrying four tonnes of chicken from a factory. The driver said he did not realise the theft had taken place and only discovered after the incident that 105kg of goods were missing.
Egypt’s Interior Ministry said that, following investigative measures, security forces identified a group of six suspects who had previous criminal records.
The ministry stated that during the operation to arrest the suspects, gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and police.
“As a result, three suspects were killed, while three others were arrested. Weapons and the vehicle used in the robbery were also seized,” the ministry said.
The incident drew attention in Egypt due to the unusual method used in the theft, which resembled scenes from action movies.
