A series of cultural events highlighting the role of museums in preserving history and strengthening national identity was recently organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) to mark International Museums Day.
Held under the theme, ‘Museums Uniting a Divided World’, the now-concluded programme featured guided tours and workshops across several cultural sites, including the Bahrain National Museum, Bahrain Fort Museum, Post Office Museum and the Kanoo Museum.
As part of efforts to promote museums as centres of learning and cultural tourism, Baca organised a guided tour of the 52nd Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum.
It attracted artists, specialists and art enthusiasts, showcasing works by established and emerging talents across painting, video and other artistic disciplines.
The Post Office Museum hosted tours exploring the history and development of postal services in Bahrain, while the Bahrain National Museum organised educational activities and workshops for young visitors aimed at strengthening their connection to museums and cultural heritage.
At Bahrain Fort Museum, artist Fatima Hassan led a workshop titled ‘Drawing Artefacts’, introducing participants to techniques for drawing archaeological artefacts.
Children from the Smile Initiative, which supports young cancer patients, also took part in special activities including exploring the ‘Find Enkiru’ application.
Meanwhile, Kanoo Museum in Manama hosted lectures and discussions focused on preserving Bahrain’s cultural memory. Highlights included a lecture by Nabeel Ajoor on the history of Manama Suq, followed by a panel discussion featuring several Bahraini artists.
Additional workshops introduced participants to sketching and traditional pottery-making, highlighting the connection between art, craftsmanship and history.
