MOTORSPORT – The Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship 2026 for the OK and OK Junior categories, originally scheduled to be held in Bahrain this November, has been relocated to Italy.
This was announced yesterday by the Commission Internationale de Karting of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA), and it is subject to approval by the World Motor Sport Council.
The karting worlds were set to be hosted at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir from November 4 to 7.
They will now take place at Italy’s World Circuit La Conca, also known as Kartdromo La Conca, from November 5 to 8.
The CIK-FIA said in a statement published yesterday that “due to the logistical challenges associated with the ongoing geopolitical situation in the Gulf, it has not been possible to stage this year’s world championship in Bahrain as planned”.
“We would like to thank Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) for their ongoing cooperation and support in recent months as we explored every possibility to stage the event in the kingdom this year,” the statement added.
“We look forward to hosting the flagship event of the FIA karting season in Italy later this year, as the future stars of our sport compete for the illustrious FIA Karting World Champion title.”
BIKC is the world-class grassroots motorsport venue of Bahrain International Circuit.
It has hosted the biggest events in karting in the past, including three world championships.
In 2012, Bahrain staged the CIK-FIA U18 World Championship, which made history as the first-ever karting world championship to be held at night under lights.
In 2013, the CIK-FIA World KF and KF-Junior Championship was held in the kingdom, and then in 2016, the CIK-FIA Karting World Championships for the OK and OK-Junior categories took place in Sakhir.
BIKC has also hosted the annual Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, another premier international karting event, multiple times.
