GCC foreign ministers discussed ways to intensify co-ordination on issues concerning freedom of navigation and safety in the Strait of Hormuz yesterday.
During a virtual meeting attended by Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, ministers exchanged views on the latest regional developments, ongoing negotiations, and efforts to advance them towards practical understandings that would help reduce tensions and strengthen regional security and stability.
Discussions also focused on ensuring rights of passage and transit, as well as the smooth flow of shipping, trade and supplies – in accordance with international law – while upholding the sovereign rights of all littoral states of the Gulf.
The ministers emphasised the importance of continuing joint action, prioritising political and diplomatic solutions, and creating conditions conducive to building trust and reaching solutions acceptable to all parties.
