A woman has been placed in provisional detention for allegedly submitting a forged academic certificate to an educational institution.
The Public Prosecution stated yesterday that it received a report on the woman, who is an employee of the institution, from the Education Ministry.
She had submitted the certificate for the renewal of her employment.
The authorities launched an investigation, and received statements from an official responsible for verifying academic certificates.
The witness reportedly stated that the university to which the certificate was attributed had been officially contacted to verify its authenticity.
The university confirmed that the certificate and the accompanying transcript were not genuine, and that the name of the accused did not appear in its records.
Investigators also heard statements from representatives of the educational institution where the accused had been employed.
They confirmed that submitting the academic qualification in question was an essential requirement for appointment to the position.
During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted to using the certificate in question from 2005 until the date of her questioning.
The investigation established that she did not possess any documents proving that she had enrolled to study at the university concerned.
The Public Prosecution ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending investigation and referred her to the criminal court for trial.
