Passengers flying out of India will no longer need to carry physical boarding passes, as immigration authorities phase out manual stamping from September 1.
Officials at India's Bureau of Immigration (BOI) said that international passengers can instead present an e-boarding pass on their smartphones for clearance.
The move aims to streamline the departure process for travellers.
Officials noted that physical stamping often caused delays and cited instances where "improper stamping" led to erroneous reading of the document, according to the Press Trust of India.
Paper boarding passes will still be accepted, but immigration officers and security personnel will no longer stamp them during frisking.
