An argument over an expensive mobile phone ended in tragedy for a family of three in Maharashtra, India, after a teenager allegedly jumped from a cliff and both parents died attempting to save him.
Kunal Chandwade, 19, fled to Khavdya Dongar hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday morning following a dispute over monthly payments for a new iPhone. According to reports, Kunal had purchased the phone and wanted his parents to pay the instalments.
His anxious parents, Murlidhar and Sangita, along with local police and rescuers, spent nearly three hours attempting to persuade the teenager to step back from the edge.
Witnesses said Murlidhar eventually tried to reach out and pull his son to safety, but Kunal jumped, dragging his father down into the 250-foot gorge.
His mother reportedly jumped after them moments later.
Police have recovered all three bodies and launched an investigation into the tragedy.
