Primary Healthcare Centres CEO Dr Ijlal Faisal Al Alawi said the centres are continuing to develop Bahrain’s healthcare system in ways that enhance the sustainability and quality of services and strengthen a patient-centred approach through facility expansion, service development and digital transformation.
She said the self-management project had improved operational efficiency, giving health centres greater flexibility in managing resources and responding to patients’ needs. She noted that the ‘Choose Your Doctor’ programme has been implemented across all 27 health centres, supporting continuity of care and medical follow-up.
Dr Al Alawi said nine of the 27 health centres currently operate around the clock to provide services for urgent cases. Preparations are also under way to open the Hussein Ali Yateem Health Centre in Salman City and the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait Health Centre in Galali, increasing capacity and keeping pace with population and urban growth.
She stressed that digital transformation is a key pillar of development, with the electronic system making it easier to book appointments and manage waiting lists, while speeding up access to test results and medical reports. The centres are also studying the use of artificial intelligence technologies in a number of services.
She added that prevention and early-detection programmes for chronic diseases and cancers are continuing, alongside smoking-cessation and health-awareness programmes.
Mr Al Alawi confirmed that Bahrainisation in health-centre jobs has reached 100 per cent, with continued efforts to train and qualify national staff and enhance their specialisations and professional development.
