Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser added another major title in her illustrious career after powering to an historic women’s 400 metres gold medal in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Naser was in a class of her own in the race, winning in a new Asiad record of 49.20 seconds – the first sub-50s time in Asian Games history in the women’s event.
Naser won by an extraordinary margin of 3.18s from her closest challenger.
With the result, the former world champion and Paris 2024 Olympics silver-medallist secured the fifth Asiad title of her career. It was also her second gold in Aichi-Nagoya after previously emerging victorious as part of Bahrain’s mixed 4x400m relay team.
Her gold was Bahrain's sixth in this year's Asian Games and it brought the kingdom's haul so far to 10.
