Omani authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle several snakes into the country through Muscat International Airport.
Royal Oman Police discovered a traveller attempting to smuggle protected and endangered pythons, which are listed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which regulates international trade in endangered species to help ensure their survival.
The attempt to smuggle the animals violated Oman's wildlife trade regulations, prompting legal action against the traveller.
The snakes were confiscated by the Royal Oman Police in coordination with the Oman Environment Authority.
