Bahrain is a world-leader in vaccination efforts, with 70 per cent of the eligible population having received at least one dose of a vaccine, free of charge, a top medic has said.
Infectious Disease Consultant and Microbiologist at the BDF Hospital and National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus member Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani highlighted Bahrain’s success in mitigating Covid-19, adding that all vaccinations approved by the country have proven effective against the virus and its mutations by enhancing immunity and reducing the severity of symptoms.
The WHO’s approval of the ‘Sinopharm’ vaccine for emergency use further confirms its safety and effectiveness, Dr Al Qahtani said.
It is in line with recommendations of the National Health Regulatory Authority and the Vaccination Committee at the Health Ministry, which authorised the emergency use of ‘Sinopharm’ based on results of the third phase of clinical trials, which found the vaccine to be 86 per cent effective.
