A TOTAL of 9,333 Bahraini families have so far benefited from the social housing financing scheme Mazaya, carried out in partnership with the private sector.
Housing Minister Bassem Al Hamer stressed the importance of the programme which aims to provide citizens with flexible housing solutions that meet their needs.
“We have multiple partners in the private sector who are supplying the scheme with new homes across the country and reaching 9,333 beneficiaries within just a few years of Mazaya’s launch reflects huge appeal,” the minister said.
Mazaya was launched in 2013, however, the first batch of beneficiaries was announced in 2014.
Meanwhile, Mr Al Hamer said deeds of 1,077 homes being built in the new East Sitra Town, as part of the project’s first phase, have been distributed.
“The second phase will include 1,269 homes and 563 residential plots. The third will include 531 undetermined housing services.”
The minister said fewer homes were being alloted following the new construction criteria.
“The number of housing units has been reduced as the width of roads have been increased from 12.5m to 15m, while coastal fronts have also been widened to 40m.
“The government had asked us to make changes to our plans to include better infrastructure services.”
Meanwhile, MPs will also debate the following proposals:
• Launching a special hotline to combat rumours under the National Communications Centre. The Information Ministry said they were working on the plan.
• Introducing e-boarding automated procedures at King Fahad Causeway for travellers. The Interior Ministry said that the idea is being studied.
• Launching a new interest-free loans fund for needy pensioners under the Social Insurance Organisation.
• Increasing social welfare allowances for families registered under the Labour and Social Development Ministry.
• Compensating shrimpers for new fishing restrictions. The Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry said BD1.8 million is being distributed annually to 439 shrimp and fish fishermen as financial aid.
