LAST month was warmer than usual for October with higher temperatures in Bahrain and not one drop of rain recorded throughout the period.
The mean temperature of the month was 30.6C – which was 0.7C above the long-term for October – and went on record as the seventh highest mean temperature since 1902.
The monthly weather report released by the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry revealed that Bahrain had eight days where the maximum temperature exceeded 35C.
“The highest temperature recorded last month was 41.9C at Bahrain International Circuit and 40.9C at Durrat Al Bahrain on October 1,” stated the Meteorological Directorate in its monthly report.
“The highest temperature recorded in October was 42.8C which occurred on October 1 in 2001.
“The mean maximum temperature of the month was 34C which is the same as the long-term normal and the highest mean monthly maximum temperature for October was 35.9C recorded in 2019.”
According to the report, the mean minimum temperature of the month was 27.8C – which is 1.4C above the long-term normal – and goes on record as the fifth-highest mean minimum temperature since 1946.
The report also revealed that the lowest temperature recorded was 25.1C on October 28 at Bahrain International Airport but 21.4C was recorded on October 27 at Durrat Al Bahrain.
“The highest mean monthly minimum temperature for October was 29.6C recorded in 2019,” added the Met in its monthly report.
“The mean relative humidity for October was 61 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 76pc and the mean minimum relative humidity was 43pc.
“The maximum relative humidity was 87pc recorded on October 16 and 31 and the minimum relative humidity was 19pc which was recorded on October 1.”
The report highlighted that no precipitation was recorded in October this year.
The long-term mean total precipitation for October was 0.9mm and the highest monthly rainfall on record was 19.9mm at Bahrain International Airport in 2018.
October was the eighth sunniest since the sunshine records began in 1968 with the total hours of sunshine for the month recorded at 322.9 hours.
“The highest monthly total hours of sunshine for October was recorded last year at 331.3 hours,” added the Met in the report. “The mean wind speed for the month was nine knots with the prevailing wind at 42pc from the Northwest direction.
“Gust winds reached 29 knots on October 19 at Bahrain International Airport while the Easterly to Southeasterly winds accounted for 20pc of the observations.”
Meanwhile, haze was reported on October 8 and visibility dropped to 2,000m at Bahrain International Airport.
