  • <p>Indian classical dancer Methil Devika dazzled the audience with a graceful performance last night during the fourth edition of the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Indo-Bahrain Dance and Music Festival being held the group’s premises in Segaiya.</p><p> She showcased her Mohiniyattam group production titled Uchchila, along with her team. The style is inspired by Muchilot Bhagavathi, a goddess believed to have originated from the sweat Lord Shiva shed at the time of his stupendous dance on the Mount Kailasa.</p><p><br></p>

  • National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) president Ali Al Derazi yesterday met United States Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission David Brownstein and reviewed areas of mutual interest and discussed co-operation. The meeting also addressed the NIHR’s efforts in promoting and raising awareness of human rights, and in monitoring the human rights situation in the kingdom through field visits, oversight reports, and awareness publications, following the institution’s legal mandate and in line with international principles and standards governing the work of national human rights institutions.

  • <p>The Civil Defence has praised the courage of a citizen, Abdulnabi Al Khabbaz, after he rescued a vehicle that caught fire at a fuel station in Daih. </p><p>Its director general Air Commodore Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi praised his courage when he visited Mr Al Khabbaz in the hospital to check on his health after he suffered burns in the accident. </p><p>The officer commended the swift response of Mr Al Khabbaz, who helped preserve lives and property. He stressed that such actions embody the values of courage and responsibility that Bahraini society cherishes.</p>

  • <p>A prayer meeting was held in memory of Kim Fernandez, a long-time resident of the kingdom and mother of Bahrain-born Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manama, yesterday.</p><p>The 71-year-old Malaysian-Canadian national died last month in Mumbai following a long battle with cancer. She was cremated in India.</p><p>Mrs Fernandez, who lived in Bahrain for more than 50 years, leaves behind husband Elroy, daughters Jacqueline and Geraldine, and sons Warren and Ryan.   • <p>More than 150 people attended a Labour Day celebration organised by the Indian Ladies Association (ILA) at a labour camp in Sitra.</p><p>The event, which aimed to recognise labourers’ contributions to society, featured live performances, engaging activities and more, reinforcing the organisation’s motto ‘Service before Self’.   • <p>A special screening was organised for about 250 expatriate workers by the Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF) as part of Labour Day celebrations. Senior government officials, LuLu Group retail director Juzer Rupawala and guests were present at the screening of the Bollywood film, Sikandar, at Epix Cinema in Dana Mall.</p>
<p>All attendees were provided with food packets courtesy Lulu Care. ICRF vice chairman Pankaj Nallur spoke of the association&rsquo;s activities and addressed the workers and thanked the guests.</p>

  • <p>Expatriate welfare group Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) Bahrain Chapter celebrated its third anniversary at KIMSHEALTH auditorium in Umm Al Hassam.</p>
<p>The third edition of the newsletter, The Bridge, featuring the group&rsquo;s ongoing initiatives, success stories and community engagements, was unveiled during the occasion, attended by diplomats, government officials, philanthropists and community leaders.</p>
<p>PLC global public relations officer and Bahrain Chapter president Sudheer Thirunilath thanked all the stakeholders for their support.</p>
<p>Key organisations, including the International Organisation for Migration, Expat Protection Centre under the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, government hospitals, the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, and KIMSHEALTH were honoured during the event.</p>

  • <p>A large crowd of citizens and residents took part in the funeral procession yesterday of Mohamed Mahmood Shehabi, who died in the Bapco tragedy along with his colleague Dejan Cuca on Friday.</p>
<p>Oil and Environment Minister Dr Mohammed Bin Daina and Bapco chief executive Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery led the mourners at Muharraq Cemetery.</p>
<p>Many officials along with family members and colleagues of the deceased were present.</p>
<p>They expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague, who was known for his dedication and hard work, praying for patience and solace for his family.</p>

  • <p>A parliamentary delegation, headed by second deputy speaker Ahmed Qarata, participated in the 38th executive committee meeting of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in Algeria.</p>
<p>He underscored Bahrain&rsquo;s unwavering national stance, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad, in supporting just Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.</p>
<p>Mr Qarata also underscored that the Arab nation is facing a critical period marked by escalating political, economic and humanitarian challenges, emphasising the need for strengthened co-ordination and unity, particularly in response to the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian crisis.</p>

  • Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh met Arab Parliament President Mohammed Al Yamahi on the sidelines of the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum in Rabat.   • <p>The Official Liverpool Supporters Club Bahrain (OLSC Bahrain) hosted a special gathering for members and fans to mark Liverpool Football Club&rsquo;s win over Tottenham Hotspur to clinch their 20th English Premier League title.</p>
<p>To mark the occasion, OLSC Bahrain hosted a screening of the match.</p>
<p>The gathering brought together fans from all walks of life who support Liverpool FC. OLSC Bahrain chairman Fahad Alabbasi expressed his pride in both the club&rsquo;s historic achievement and the unity amongst fans in Bahrain.</p>
