This year has brought double joy for Cordoba CF, who won the Spanish Federation Cup and have now been promoted to the third tier.
The Bahrain-backed team booked a berth in the Primera Division RFEF after clinching the Segunda soccer championship.
The promotion to Primera RFEF came after Cordoba’s 1-0 victory over Merida in week 30 of the league, raising their score to 72 points at the top of the standings. With four games to spare, they are 15 points ahead of the second-placed team.
Cordoba as a team is completely dominating the rival teams, as it scored the largest number of goals in the division (73) and conceded the least number of goals in the division (22) with a (+51) goal difference. The top three attackers in the entire division are from Cordoba’s attack, which indicates the strength of their attack, while the team is the first in the division to be promoted.
Congratulated
Meanwhile, His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated Cordoba.
He asserted that the promotion came as a logical result of the club’s board of directors joining together in a one-team spirit with members of the technical and administrative staff, and providing the ideal environment for the players.
“The observer of Cordoba’s journey during the season is fully aware of the amount of work organised by the club’s system, which has set clear goals that it has sought to achieve, including building a technically strong team that is aided with stars who are capable of excelling throughout the season,” said Shaikh Nasser.
“Cordoba Club proved that it is worthy of returning to Primera RFEF. We appreciate the efforts of the technical and administrative staff of the team and its tireless work, in addition to the efforts of the players who showed outstanding levels throughout the league, contributing to the team’s remarkable performance that resulted in this outstanding achievement.”
