ICE-SKATERS of all ages have been beating the heat and enjoying a ‘Summer on Ice’ at a short-term ice rink at the Wadi Al Sail Mall in Riffa.
The Wadi Skate pop-up opened on August 4 and runs until September 3.
The rink is open from noon to 10pm from Saturday to Wednesday, and from noon until midnight on Thursdays and Fridays.
“Our busiest times are in the evening from 6pm to 8pm, and we have had visitors of all ages stop by to enjoy the rink,” Wadi Skate team leader Hamed Albalooshi told the GDN.
For young children, special double blade skates are available which can be attached to their current footwear.
A skating aid ‘Bobby the Seal’ is available to those who are still unsteady on their feet.
“We also have 2-3 ushers on the ice, depending on how busy the rink gets, to make sure everyone is having fun safely,” Mr Albalooshi added.
“There are also two nurses, equipped with first aid kits, on hand, in case someone does get injured.
“We also sanitise the skates and equipment after every use, and clean the rink twice or thrice a day to reduce the risk of injury.”
Alongside the rink is a stage with performances lined up for every weekend, as well as vendor booths to provide food and entertainment for all.
This weekend, Hameed Al Saeed will be performing tomorrow from 8pm to 9pm, Elila will take the stage on Friday from 7pm to 8pm and Anna Nazimova will perform on Saturday from 7pm to 8pm.
