Six students were hospitalised and the school had to be shut down for the day after a student used a 'fart spray' as a prank.
Earlier this week, students and staff at Caney Creek High School started smelling a gas odour. The school called the fire department, but they could not locate any gas sources. The students were then told to go back to class despite the smell.
By the end of that day, six students had to be sent to the hospital with severe headaches from the smell, with at least 8 others who reported feeling severely ill.
The school was forced to shut down for the rest of the week, even though the fire department confirmed the safety of the air inside the building.
After three days of investigations by the local fire department, one student eventually confessed to using a 'fart spray, a gag toy that creates the smell of vomit and faeces on the school premises.
According to reports, the school district is working with the district attorney on the incident and "will address it to the fullest extent of the Student Code of Conduct and the laws of the State of Texas".
