THE Northern Governorate could become the first-ever fully healthy governorate in Bahrain, the region, and the Middle East – after a request was officially sent to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) regional office in Manama.
The request was signed by Northern Governor Ali Al Asfoor in the presence of Healthy City programme co-ordinator Hawra Alshoula following directives issued by Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
Mr Al Asfoor affirmed his belief that the governorate has the capability to meet the required standards.
He thanked the Health Ministry and other government institutions for their hard work and dedication in ensuring a high quality of life in the governorate.
Bahrain already has four cities with the designation. Manama and Umm Al Hassam were recognised as healthy cities in 2018, with Busaiteen and Aali receiving the same honour in 2022.
