More than 300 cardiologists, medical students and cardiac researchers from around the world are attending a major four-day conference in Bahrain.
The 8th International Cardiology Conference started at the Gulf Convention Centre yesterday.
Running until Saturday, it is being hosted by the Royal Medical Services (RMS), through the Mohammed Bin Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre, in partnership with the US-based Mayo Clinic.
Top cardiology consultants from the US are expected to exchange knowledge and showcase the latest advancements, treatments and research breakthroughs in cardiology. Attendees will be awarded 20 accredited educational hours by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).
The programme includes 50 presentations from renowned experts, along with specialised workshops covering a broad spectrum of cardiology topics such as valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, vascular conditions, ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.
Yesterday’s lectures included talks on Valvular Regurgitation by Mayo Clinic cardiologist Dr Joseph Maalouf, Tricuspid Valve Disease by the clinic’s cardiovascular consultant Dr Naser Ammash and Diseases and Syndromes of the Aorta by cardiologist Dr Thais Coutinho.
Today’s sessions include lectures on Cardioprotective Diets by cardiologist Dr Kyla Lara-Breitinger, Acute Coronary Syndrome by interventional cardiologist Dr Malcolm Bell and Spontaneous Coronary Artery Spasm by echocardiographer Dr Rekha Mankad.
Other notable sessions to be held over the next few days include a talk on Antiarrhythmic Medications by cardiac electrophysiologist Guru Kowlgi tomorrow and Cardiac Amyloid by cardiologist Dr Omar Ezzeddine on Saturday.
The event also features exhibitions providing an opportunity to interact with healthcare providers and see some of their products and services.
